Frequently Asked Questions for Campers
Where will I live at camp? The cabins are where some of the best memories and friendships are made. Our cabins are rustic red color wood-framed buildings, each equipped with bathrooms, electricity, screened windows, comfortable beds, and personal shelves. Eight to 12 campers of the same age from all over the world live together with their counselors and spend mealtimes with each other as well. Cabins of the same age group are clustered together in various areas around camp in to form our three "villages" Braves, Warriors, and Council. The oldest group, Sachem, has a cabin that is in its own area. Each village has its own group leader, who is a resource for campers, helps supervise the counselors, and plans special activities for the village. back to top How is the food? We dare you to find a camp with better food! Food is served family-style and you will sit with other campers in your cabin and age group. Our chef, Chef Louis, has been at Cobbossee for 21 years and is loved by campers and counselors alike. Chef Louis and his crew create a well-balanced and nutritious menu of camp favorites (grilled cheese, hot dogs, barbecue chicken, tacos, spaghetti, baked potatoes and more), along with salad bars, pasta bars, and a breakfast bar. Not to mention our delicious camp cookouts, steak dinners, and an end-of-the-summer Maine lobster bake that will help make sure you are always energized every day! back to top What activities does Camp Cobbossee offer?
How do I choose which activities I can go to? Before you come to camp, we will send you an activity choice sheet. If you are in 4th grade or below, we will assign a schedule so you can get a taste of everything Camp Cobbossee has to offer! If you are in 5th and 6th grade, you have guided choices where you can choose activities from a variety of categories (i.e. land sports, water sports, hobbies). If you are in 7th grade or higher, you choose everything! The schedule works on a 3 day rotation, so nothing ever gets repetitive. back to top Is Camp Cobbossee very competitive? At Camp Cobbossee, we encourage good sportsmanship and fair play in everything we do. While everyone likes to win when they compete, our campers love to have fun playing sports with their fellow campers. Each game is a learning opportunity to develop new skills. back to top What if I am not a good athlete? The great thing about camp is that it offers you an opportunity to try new things. Whether you are a beginner or a pro at your sport, our instructional sports program emphasizes personal instruction, skill development and teamwork so every camper leaves camp with a greater sense of confidence. And of course, you can always check out our wonderful waterfront activities and outdoor programs. back to top Are there socials with nearby girls' camps? Socials are held throughout the summer with various girls' camps in the area. The number and format of the socials depends upon the age of the campers. back to top What happens if I get sick or injured? We have 4 registered nurses at camp and there are two hospitals located within 15 minutes of camp. If there are ever any incidents that arise, you can be assured that you will be in good hands. back to top What happens if I get homesick? Homesickness is a natural reaction to being away from homeespecially for those who have never been away from home before. Most often, episodes of homesickness occur during the first couple of days at camp when there is quiet time. There is no true remedy to fix homesickness since every case is different. However, you should feel comfortable going to your counselors, group leader or Josh and Jill to discuss how you are feeling. Their doors are always open no matter what the situation is. back to top How do I communicate with my parents? You will be required to write letters home two times a week during the summer. Parents are allowed to schedule one phone call per session and send you one-way emails, however you will not be allowed to send emails. You'll be outdoors, having fun all day...there won't even be time! back to top Can I bring my Gameboy, PSP, or mp3 player? We want to you to make the most out of their camping experience. Therefore, electronic games (Gameboys, PSPs, etc) are not permitted at camp. MP3 players are allowed, however if they have video capabilities, all videos must be removed prior to camp. Camp Cobbossee is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen MP3 players. back to top Is there a uniform? Campers are expected to dress appropriately. For example, if you are playing baseball, cleats and baseball pants would be expected. There is no required uniform, but during inter-camp competitions, campers wear Camp Cobbossee clothing. back to top Alumni | Log In | Contact Us | Home |
