Camp Cobbossee is located in Monmouth, Maine, which is 15 miles west of Augusta (Maine's capital) and less than one hour from the Portland International Jetport. Why should I consider Camp Cobbossee over other camps?

Camp Cobbossee is the only all-boys 4 week sports camp that provides the true Maine camp experience. Whether your son attends first or second session, he will receive a complete traditional sleep-away camp experience, with a beginning, middle, and end to his session.

Under the guidance of enthusiastic and caring staff members, Cobbossee campers are able to appreciate all that Maine has to offer. Our program is unique, as it encompasses almost everything into a balanced schedule. Cobbossee offers excellent sports instruction, exciting outdoor adventure programs, great waterfront sports, and all of the activities that traditional sleep-away camps typically offer.

Along with the programming, our facilities are some of the best around. We have Major and Little League baseball fields (both with their own outfield walls), a stunning kitchen and dining hall, our recently built 8400 square foot indoor sporting complex (the Cobbadome), and regulation size lacrosse, soccer, and football fields. Check out more about our facilities here.

With such a great program, a beautiful landscape, and top-notch facilities, Camp Cobbossee is definitely the place to be!

Is Camp Cobbossee very competitive?

At Camp Cobbossee, we encourage good sportsmanship and fair play in everything we do. While everyone likes to win when they compete, our campers love to have fun playing sports with their fellow campers. Each game is a learning opportunity to develop new skills.

Do you offer options for campers to come for less than 4 weeks?

Yes. Our 2-week "Stay and Play" option is open to first time campers currently completing 4th grade or below. This experience is a perfect introduction to sleep away camping for families who are interested in the experience but are not sure if they are ready for a full session. The program starts at the beginning of each session and allows for the boys to "extend" their stay and take part in the rest of the session, for a total of 3-1/2 weeks. Our camper to counselor ratio is 3:1 throughout the camp, but is 2:1 for our stay and play campers.

How is the staff selected?

After a lengthy interview process, Camp Cobbossee hires staff members who possess character and integrity and who serve as excellent role models for our boys. We do this by recruiting staff members from the finest universities in the U.S. and abroad. We recruit students who have a desire to work with children-many of whom are in school to become teachers. Each program area is headed by a specialist who is very knowledgeable about their area, which allows the boys to gain more skills every day. All of our counselors have completed at least one year in college. A camper-to-counselor ratio of 3:1 is maintained to ensure proper supervision at all times.

What happens if my child gets sick or injured?

We have 4 registered nurses at camp and there are two hospitals located within 15 minutes of camp. If there are ever any incidents that arise, you can be assured that your son will be in good hands.

What happens if my son gets homesick?

Homesickness is a natural reaction to being away from home-especially for those who have never been away from home before. Most often, episodes of homesickness occur during the first couple of days at camp when there is quiet time. There is no true remedy to fix homesickness since every case is different. However, your son should feel comfortable going to his counselors, group leader or Josh and Jill to discuss how he is feeling and a plan of action will be arranged to help your son overcome his homesickness. During our staff training, we devote an extensive amount of time on how to assist campers who might be having a hard time adjusting to being away from home for the first time.

How can we communicate with our child?

The best way to contact your child is by mailing him letters; campers love coming back to their cabin after lunch to get their mail. You can also send one-way emails to your son. Additionally, parents can arrange one phone call during the session. The call will be scheduled based on both the camper's and parents' schedule. We post daily photos and newsletters during the summer so you can keep up with all the fun your son is having at camp!

Can my son receive packages?

No. We kindly ask that friends and family refrain from sending food of any kind into camp and respect our no food policy. Any package received without previously informing the directors will be returned to sender. Campers may receive 9X12 envelopes with their favorite magazines, newspapers, etc.

Can my son bring his Gameboy, PSP, or mp3 player?

We want to encourage our campers to make the most out of their camping experience. Therefore, all electronic games are not permitted at camp (Gameboy, PSPs, etc). MP3 players are allowed, however if they have video capabilities, all videos must be removed prior to camp. Camp Cobbossee is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen MP3 players.
