The Camp Cobbossee baseball program makes great use of our newly renovated Major League and Little League fields. Depending on the league play, the bases on the major league field can either be 75 or 90 feet long. In addition, campers can test their home run swing with our 10' left field wall. Our fields include a professional infield and a warning track. Our little league field includes 60 foot long base paths as well as its own left field "monster wall". In between practices and games, campers use our professional batting cage to polish their swing with individual instruction and repetition. < back to top
Basketball is a favorite amongst campers at Camp Cobbossee. We have two outdoor regulation sized courts, which are equipped with flood lights for night play, as well as our amazing state-of-the-art 8400 square foot indoor basketball facilitythe Cobbadome. The Cobbadome includes a full size court that can also play as two half courts. Most evenings our older campers can be found playing pick-up games and challenges before lights out. Our basketball director is Mike "Griff" Griffin who has been at Camp Cobbossee for over 20 years and loves the game of basketball. During the off-season, he coaches at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), enabling the campers to receive real coaching from a college basketball coach! < back to top
Camp Cobbossee is one of the few camps to offer European Team Handball. This exciting, fast-paced Olympic sport combines the complex ball handling of basketball with the teamwork and passing of soccer. Two teams of seven players each pass and bounce the ball, trying to throw it in the goal of the opposing team. Teaching European Team Handball to new campers is something our older returning campers look forward to each summer. < back to top Fitness Training Taking into account the importance of strength training and conditioning in an athlete's routine, campers learn proper techniques to maximize their skill improvement with programs designed specifically for their age and size. The program takes place in our weight room located in the Cobbadome as well as around our campus. Boys completing 7th grade and higher have the opportunity during fitness training to lift weights and get in shape. For our younger campers, we offer a non-weight lifting program we call "Fun and Fitness", which combines general exercise, running and more. < back to top
Flag football is one of the newest additions to our program. Flag football allows the campers to practice their football skills without having to wear full practice pads and risking injury. Our flag football program emphasizes techniques and developing skills, with drills in pulling flags, route running, and catching a ball while falling out of bounds...just to name a few! With a combination of fun drills and scrimmages to put new skills in action, flag football is quickly becoming a favorite amongst the campers! < back to top
We offer a wonderful golf program at Cobbossee. Campers can select golf in their daily schedule where they are able to practice their swings in our quiet, secluded driving range on camp property. Our golf pros instruct campers in club selection, swinging, driving practice, and strokes. In addition, we offer our Pro Golf Program for our more serious golfers. These campers take several trips to golf courses in the area to put their practice to work. We provide all of the clubs and equipment, allowing campers to try golf for the first time. Hockey is another one of our exciting programs at Camp Cobbossee. We have a NHL sized street hockey rink which we use for roller hockey three periods a day and street hockey two periods a day. Our program covers every facet of the game: stick handling, shooting, skating (roller hockey only), goalie skills, team play concepts and more! We provide all of the equipment with the exception of rollerblades, which are optional. < back to top
As lacrosse has gained popularity across the country, the same can be said for lacrosse at Camp Cobbossee. Our campers love putting on their lacrosse equipment to learn the skills and techniques of playing lacrosse. Beginning campers work on stick handling, cradling, passing and scooping, while the more advanced campers work more on game concepts and strategy. < back to top
Soccer is played on our two full-sized fields. This program emphasizes all aspects of the game including dribbling, shooting and passing skills, based on the age and ability of the camper. Our coaches offer customized instruction in order to meet the various skill levels of our campers. < back to top
Tennis is a featured activity in Cobbossee's daily schedule. Our nine full-sized courts give campers the choice of clay or all-weather and several of our courts have lights for night play. Professional individual attention is the cornerstone of the Cobbossee tennis program with superb attention given to each individual's needs, whether it is forehand, backhand or serves. Our campers also have the opportunity to participate in tournaments throughout the summer. Our tennis program is directed by Lloyd Johnson. Lloyd has been the tennis pro at Cobbossee for over 15 years. He returns year after year from Jamaica where he brings his own staff to help teach tennis. For campers who are looking for additional instruction, they can take part in our Pro Tennis Program. Click here for more information. < back to top
We have a cross country course for our campers who love to run. Whether a camper is training for a track team or just running for fun, he will love our scenic course in the Maine wilderness. Throughout the summer, our staff will work to drop seconds off each camper's time. < back to top
Volleyball is enjoyed by many of our campers. Instruction is provided on serving, blocking and spiking and we practice drills emphasizing ball control and passing, to enhance skills and improve strategy. We include volleyball in many of our intramurals and special events. < back to top Alumni | Log In | Contact Us | Home |
